Scones
Ingredients
- 225g self raising flour
- 75g butter
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 100ml milk or buttermilk
- 1 egg
- 50g caster sugar
Method
- Preheat the oven to 210°C
- Sift the flour into a bowl
- Rub in the butter
- Stir in the sugar, salt and fruit
- Add the egg and the milk (a little at a time)
- Mix until it forms a ball of dough.
- Place the ball of dough on to a floured surface and gently press out to form a 2cm thick circle.
- Divide the dough into eight pieces (like a pizza) and separate out the pieces slightly to allow for them to rise.
- Brush with an egg wash and sprinkle with granulated sugar.
- Place in the top of the oven for about 12 mins
- Remove from the oven and cool on a wire rack.
- Serve with cream & strawberries
